Booking and Payments
HOW DO I ADJUST MY BOOKING?
If you have booked online through an external site, adjust your booking through the site you booked with. Make sure to check our Cancellation Policy first, to ensure enough notice is given for any nights cancelled. If you booked directly with us or through our website, get in touch with the hostel.
HOW DO I CANCEL MY BOOKING?
If you have booked online through an external site, cancel your booking through the site you booked with. All other bookings must be cancelled in writing, directly with the hostel. Please read our Cancellation Policy first.
CAN I GET A REFUND?

I DON’T HAVE A CREDIT CARD. CAN I STILL MAKE A BOOKING?
No. You must have a valid credit or debit card in order to make a booking.
CAN I USE THE CREDIT CARD OF ANOTHER PERSON FOR MY BOOKING?
Not without written confirmation, alongside a copy of ID from the cardholder. Contact the hostel directly for more information.
CAN I PAY IN CASH?
We removed cash from all properties a few months ago. CC’s only now!
HOW AND WHEN WILL MY DEPOSIT BE CHARGED?
We don’t charge deposits anywhere. The only place this happens is if you book on HostelWorld.
WHY DIDN’T I RECEIVE A BOOKING CONFIRMATION?
Our team manually check each booking once it’s been created online. If we’re super busy, this process may take a little longer. In the case that the email address provided is invalid, we may not be able to get in contact with you if there’s an issue with your booking. Check your junk mail, then please get in contact with the hostel.
I WANT TO STAY LONGER; CAN I EXTEND MY BOOKING?
You sure can! Booking extensions all depend on availability, so let us know early.
HOW DO I MAKE A GROUP BOOKING?
For groups of 8 or more, contact the hostel directly. For smaller groups, you can make the booking online or directly with the hostel. See our Group Bookings page for more information.
Check-In and Check-Out
DO I NEED AN ID TO CHECK-IN AT DRIFTER?
Although you are not asked to provide ID in order to create a booking, you will not be checked in without providing one valid form of government-issued photo ID, and your booking will be cancelled, subject to our Cancellation Policy.
WHAT TIME CAN I CHECK-IN?
While some of our properties are open 24/7, our doors typically close at 9pm. If you plan to arrive after 9pm please make sure to let us know in advance, in order to arrange a late check in for you.
CAN I ORGANISE A LATE CHECK-OUT?
We don’t currently offer late check-out in all properties. You can see it if it is available to you when you book with us directly.
CAN I CHECK-IN OUTSIDE RECEPTION HOURS?
Yes. Please let us know in advance so we can arrange a late check-in for you.
CAN UNDER 18’S STAY WITHOUT ADULT SUPERVISION?
Yes (for all Sydney locations), but they will need to stay in a private room. Each underage guest must provide a parental consent form, accompanied by the ID of the signing parent or guardian and a valid credit card to secure the booking.
For our Melbourne location, under 18’s cannot stay at the hostel without the supervision of an adult.
DO YOU HAVE AN AGE LIMIT?
No, we do not have an age limit. All Drifters are welcome.
CAN I STORE MY LUGGAGE BEFORE OR AFTER CHECK-IN?
Yes, luggage storage is available for our guests. Please speak to reception for details.
Facilities and Amenities
CAN I STORE MY LUGGAGE AT THE HOSTEL?
Yes, you can store your bags in our luggage room before check-in and after check-out (same day storage only). Contact the hotel/hostel directly for specific information.
DO THE ROOMS HAVE DISABLED ACCESS?
We do have certain rooms with disabled access, depending on availability. Let us know before you book, so we can make sure it’s available.
CAN I BRING MY OWN BED LINEN?
No. Due to health and safety regulations, we cannot allow guests to bring their own linen, sleeping bags or blankets. We provide fresh and clean linen, blankets and pillows free of charge.
HOW CAN I KEEP MY BELONGINGS SAFE IN A DORM?
Every dorm bed has a locker provided. You will need to bring your own padlock.
DO YOU PROVIDE TOWELS?
All our private rooms come with complimentary towels. Guests in dorms can purchase towels on-site.
DO YOU PROVIDE HAIR DRYERS?
All our private rooms contain a hair dryer. Guests in dorms can hire a hair dryer for a small deposit. This deposit is refundable on return of the hair dryer.
WHAT COMMUNAL FACILITIES DO YOU HAVE?
Each hostel has a communal kitchen, where you can store food and make meals. Each hostel has a communal laundry, where you can do your washing for a small fee. We have communal areas including outdoor courtyards and indoor chill-out spaces. See each hostel page for more information.
DO YOU PROVIDE MEALS?
Unfortunately we don’t provide meals at our hostels. At only select venues we have in house restaurants and bars, however, all of our hostels are located within easy walking distance to grocery stores, cafes and restaurants to find something to eat.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS ORGANISED AT THE HOSTEL?
Yes, we offer a variety of events and activities at our hostels, including pilates, yoga, movie nights, weekly cookups, run clubs, trivia nights and more.
DO YOU PROVIDE PARKING?
We do not have on-site parking.
ARE THERE ROOMS WITH A HOT TUB?
No, we do not have rooms with hot tubs.
DO YOU OFFER MIXED DORM AND FEMALE-ONLY DORMS?
Yes, we have both mixed dorms and female-only dorms. The type will be indicated in the room name when booking.
ARE THERE ROOMS WITH PRIVATE BATHROOMS
Yes, private bathrooms are available with some room types. Select your dates to check availability.
IS THERE AN AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICE?
We do not offer an airport shuttle service.
IS WIFI AVAILABLE?
Yes, free Wi-Fi is available in all properties.
IS THERE A RESTAURANT ON-SITE?
Only in some properties. Please check details of your location when booking.
IS ROOM SERVICE AVAILABLE?
No, room service is not offered.
DO YOU SERVE BREAKFAST?
Breakfast is available in Christchurch only at The Rambler on the ground floor. The cafe opens at 7:00 am, offering various options, including a booked breakfast that can be added to your reservation for $15 NZD per person, per day.
IS THERE A LAUNDRY SERVICE?
We provide self-service laundry facilities. A washing machine and dryer are available, both costing $7 per use. Payments can be made via any contactless payment method.
HOW CAN I MAKE SPECIAL REQUESTS?
You can add special requests when booking. While we do our best to accommodate, they are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Additional Questions
CAN I BRING IN FRIENDS WHO AREN’T STAYING AT THE HOSTEL?
Friends and family are welcome in our lobby areas, but we can only allow checked-in guests past this point.
CAN I GET MAIL DELIVERED TO THE HOSTEL?
Yes, we will hold mail for all in-house guests. It is your responsibility to collect it. Mail for checked-out guests will be returned to sender, unless you let us know you are coming back to collect it. If you want to have mail sent before you arrive, let the hostel know it’s coming so we hold it for you. We take no responsibility for lost mail.
