Pet-Friendly Accommodation in Christchurch
At Drifter Christchurch, we understand that pets are part of the family. That’s why we offer a number of pup friendly private rooms to ensure your furry friends can join in the fun.
Whether you’re travelling with a small dog for a weekend getaway or stopping through Christchurch on a South Island road trip, Drifter combines central-city convenience, comfortable private suites, and easy access to nearby parks and walking areas.

Our pet-friendly accommodation in Christchurch sits in the central city, with a bar, a kitchen and a lounge downstairs. Only some of the private rooms take dogs, so let us know directly if you’re bringing along your four-legged friend. There is a $50 a night fee to cover additional allergen clean for future guests and best to speak with the team directly to ensure the room is suitable when booking.

Walk Your Dog in Nearby Hagley Park
Located a short 15-minute walk from Drifter Christchurch, Hagley Park offers the perfect setting for a leisurely stroll with your dog. Dogs are allowed off-leash in the park as long as they are under effective control and must be on a lead while on pathways. Please note that dogs are not permitted in the Botanic Gardens.
Christchurch City Council sets the rules for dogs in parks and publishes a map of the leashed, prohibited and off-leash areas across the city. Check the Council’s dog rules map before you head out.

Getting Around Christchurch With Your Dog
Small dogs can travel on Christchurch’s Metro buses for free. You’ll need a carrier that fits on your lap or under the seat (up to 58cm long), one pet per person, and you can only travel off-peak: weekdays from 9am to 3pm, after 6:30pm, and any time on weekends and public holidays. The Bus Interchange is a two-minute walk from our door, which makes getting around easy. Metro’s rules for travelling with pets have the full details.
Heading further around the South Island? Your dog crosses Cook Strait for free on the Interislander ferry, as long as they stay in your vehicle for the crossing. If you’re travelling without a car, you’ll need to book a kennel when you buy your ticket.
