Private Room Hostel Sydney

Your own room, with all the benefits of a hostel

There comes a point in most trips where you’d like a door that closes behind you. Our private hostel rooms in Sydney give you exactly that, with a queen or double bed to yourself, an ensuite in most rooms, and a room you can shut the world out of for as long as you need to.

The difference between this and a hotel room is what happens when you open that door again. There’s a lounge on the other side of it, a kitchen where somebody is always cooking, desks to work from and a few dozen people who landed in Sydney the same week you did. You get the quiet when you want it and the crowd when you don’t.

About our private rooms in Sydney

All three of our Sydney properties keep private hostel rooms alongside the shared suites, which means you can choose the neighbourhood first and the room second. Bondi Beach is for waking up near the surf, Surry Hills for arriving by train and eating your way along Crown Street, and Glebe for the markets and a quieter run of the inner west.

Our private rooms work for people who want a few quiet nights in the middle of a long trip, for couples who would rather not pay Sydney hotel rates, and for anyone who has been in dorms long enough to want their own bathroom back. Booking with us directly is always the cheapest way in.

Every private room is built to be lived in rather than just slept in, for three nights or for three weeks. Pick the one that suits your trip:

Private Suite at Bondi Beach Sydney

A queen bed with your own private ensuite, a TV, a full-length mirror and charging ports, in a room designed around a good night’s sleep after a day in the surf. It suits couples, and solo travellers who want more room than a dorm gives them.

Loft Room at Bondi Beach Sydney

Our loft rooms come in a few different setups, from premium and queen beds through to doubles and singles, and add a custom loft and a lounge space to the usual private ensuite and TV. Good for anyone who wants somewhere to sit that isn’t the end of the bed.

Private Suite at Surry Hills Sydney

Double or queen beds with a choice of ensuite or shared bathroom, a TV, a full-length mirror and charging ports, 800 metres from Central Station. The best value private room we have for anyone spending their time in Sydney CBD rather than at the beach.

Private Suite at Glebe Sydney

Double or queen beds on Glebe Point Road, with a TV, a full-length mirror and charging ports, plus the rooftop terrace and movie room downstairs. Handy for the markets, the university and the inner west.

Travelling with a few people? An entire dorm can be booked out for your group, which turns a 4 to 10 bed room into a private one. Our team can set that up alongside private rooms for anyone who wants their own space.

Why book a Private Hostel room?

A hotel room in Sydney buys you privacy and not much else. You collect a keycard, ride the lift up, and that is the last conversation you have until checkout. A dorm bed gives you the reverse, which is plenty of company and nowhere to go when you want an early night before a flight.

A private hostel room sits between the two. The room is your own space to wind down, and social company is there when you go looking for it. Towels and a hair dryer come with the room rather than being bought or hired at reception, and you get a TV and a full-length mirror on top.

Bringing The Whole Crew?

Groups can mix private hostel rooms with shared suites, or book out an entire dorm to keep everyone together under one roof. Sports teams, school groups, big friend groups and corporate travel all work across our three Sydney properties, and the communal areas keep the group connected between activities.

For groups of eight or more, get in touch with the property directly and the team will handle the room mix, the catering and the logistics that come with moving a large group around Sydney. Smaller groups can book online or with the hostel.

Stay in Sydney, your way

Nobody should have to pick between a room of their own and somewhere with a bit of life in it. Bondi’s beach, Surry Hills’ bars and Glebe’s markets sit a short walk from your door, and the room behind that door is entirely yours. Book direct for our best available rate.

FAQs about our Private Suites in Sydney

Do I have to share my private hostel room with anyone?

No. A private room is yours and yours alone, or shared only with the people you book it with. Nobody else is placed in the room, which is the main difference between this and a bed in one of our shared suites.

Do private hostel rooms have their own bathroom?

Private bathrooms come with some room types. The private suites and loft rooms at Bondi Beach have their own ensuite, while Surry Hills and Glebe have a mix of ensuite and shared bathroom rooms. The room page for each suite states which arrangement applies, so it is worth checking that before you lock in your dates.

What bed options are available in Drifter’s private hostel rooms?

Bondi Beach private suites have a queen bed, and the loft rooms there run from singles and doubles through to queen and premium setups. Surry Hills and Glebe both have double or queen beds. Bed configuration is listed on each room page and confirmed at the time of booking.

Can couples stay in private hostel rooms?

Couples are welcome in any of our private rooms, and a queen or double bed is standard across the three Sydney properties. It works out well below a Sydney hotel room for the same neighbourhoods, with the communal spaces there if you feel like company.

What amenities are included in each private hostel room?

Every private room has free Wi-Fi, a TV, a full-length mirror, charging ports and sustainable bathroom amenities, with an ensuite in most. Towels and a hair dryer are complimentary in private rooms, and linen, blankets and pillows are included at no cost.

Can I still experience a social atmosphere if I book a private room at one of your Sydney hostels?

That is the whole reason to pick a hostel private room over a hotel. Our curated events programme is open to every guest regardless of room type, from yoga and the Thursday coastal walk through to art sessions and the monthly Meet the Streets at Bondi, and the lounges, kitchens and co-working spaces are shared by the whole property.

Is there long stay accommodation available in your private hostel rooms?

Longer stays work well in a private room, and extensions come down to availability, so it pays to let us know early. Get in touch with the property directly if you’re planning several weeks in Sydney and the team will talk you through rates.

Do you offer group bookings for private rooms in Sydney?

For groups of eight or more, contact the hostel directly and the team will arrange the mix of private rooms and shared suites that suits you. Smaller groups can book online or with the hostel, and an entire dorm can be booked out to keep everyone in one room.
